ICT Policy
The MIU Department of ICT Services (DICTS) is committed to the responsible and secure use of information and communication technology resources. This ICT Policy outlines the guidelines, principles, and responsibilities governing the use of these resources within MIU.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:
- Define the responsible use of MIU’s ICT resources.
- Safeguard sensitive information and data.
- Promote ethical and lawful use of technology.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Scope
This policy applies to all MIU faculty, staff, students, contractors, and any individuals granted access to MIU’s ICT resources.
Policy Statements
- Acceptable Use: Users of MIU’s ICT resources must engage in responsible and ethical practices. This includes respecting copyright laws, not engaging in illegal activities, and adhering to MIU’s code of conduct.
- Data Security: All users are responsible for protecting sensitive data. This includes not sharing passwords, regularly updating software, and reporting security incidents.
- Access Control: Access to ICT resources will be granted based on job requirements. Users must not attempt to gain unauthorized access or share login credentials.
- Email and Communication: Email and other communication tools should be used for professional and academic purposes. Spam, phishing, and harassment are strictly prohibited.
- Software Licensing: Users must respect software licensing agreements. Unauthorized installation or distribution of software is prohibited.
- Network Use: Users should not engage in activities that may negatively impact network performance. Bandwidth-intensive activities should be conducted outside of peak hours.
- Reporting Violations: Users are encouraged to report any suspected violations of this policy to DICTS. Whistleblower protections will be enforced.
Responsibilities
- DICTS: DICTS will provide support, guidance, and oversight to ensure compliance with this policy.
- Users: Users are responsible for understanding and adhering to this policy. Ignorance of the policy will not be accepted as an excuse for non-compliance.
Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to suspension of ICT privileges, academic or employment consequences, and legal action as deemed appropriate.
Review and Revision
This ICT Policy will be reviewed and revised as needed to ensure its effectiveness and relevance to MIU’s evolving ICT landscape.
