Connecting Beyond Campus with Eduroam Services at Metropolitan International University

Dear MIU Staff and Students,

We are thrilled to announce the successful implementation of the Eduroam network service at MIU Department of ICT Services (DICTS). Eduroam, short for “education roaming,” is a global roaming access service that allows MIU academicians to seamlessly connect to wireless network services at other member institutions worldwide. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration and connectivity, providing MIU users with a reliable and secure network experience.

Eduroam at MIU: Connecting Globally

Just like our counterparts at Makerere University, MIU staff and students can now utilize their MIU email addresses to access wireless network services at any eduroam member institution globally. Your MIU email address and password serve as the key to connect to the eduroam network, offering convenient and secure access to internet services while visiting other academic institutions.

Eduroam Wireless Signal: “eduroam”

When you are visiting other eduroam member institutions, simply look for the “eduroam” wireless signal and log in using your MIU email credentials. Similarly, we welcome academicians from other institutions to connect to MIU’s wireless internet service using their respective university email addresses.

Metro-Eduroam: Zero-Cost Roaming

MIU has also joined the National Metro-education Roaming network, providing access to 330 hotspots across key locations in Uganda. This includes Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Entebbe Airport, and upcountry locations like Mbarara, Kabale, Arua, Mbale, and Lira. This extensive network coverage allows MIU students studying remotely to access MIU portals and websites at zero cost, reducing internet expenses for those located near these hotspots.

Consolidating ICT Service Access: Single Sign-On Implementation

In alignment with the MIU ICT Service Management Policy, DICTS has implemented Single Sign-On to enhance security and resource management. This initiative ensures that only authorized MIU users can access specific ICT services using their @miu.ac.ug email address and password.
